What is Fair Trade?
People often ask: Why fair trade?
When Tumi started in 1978 the word fairtrade was not used in the same way as it is today. But there are organisations in the UK such as Tearcraft and later Tradecrafts and Tumi who developed the concept and tried to show others that you can make viable business in a capitalist society whilst being fair and just with the people who provide you with the income, often the artesans who live in developing countries.

These gorgeous garden hammocks are hand made in El Salvador in Central America where hammocks are commonly used by the indigenous population and have traditionally been used for many centuries. The 100% cotton textile is woven on upright treadle looms by men, and the textile is then made up into hammocks by women. Please note that the 100% cotton textile is extremely hard wearing and of very high quality. The measurements given are of the actual textile - if you want the full length of the hammock, including the ropes, it measures 294cms. The hammocks come with information on hanging and safety guidelines but you can also find out more from the link below. Please note that the hammock frame in the photo is not included. |
