Hand painted tiles have been made in Mexico for hundreds of years, being introduced by the Spanish during the seventeenth century.  The indigenous population of Mexico produced pottery items before the arrival of the Spanish,  but they were unglazed and fired at relatively low temperatures. The Spanish learned the technique of glazing from the Moors of southern Spain, who in turn learned from the Persians who learned from the Chinese!

Glazed mexican tiles can be seen in use across the whole of Mexico and in particular the colonial cities of Mexico.  They continue to be made in the city of Puebla as well as in San Miguel de Allende where our tiles are made.  Our selection offers tiles in 2 sizes and lots of lovely designs and colours.  Enjoy browsing.
