Ask a question about this product

The berimbau is a traditional Brazilian instrument thought to be of African origin. It consists of a large wooden bow with a metal string, which is pulled tight across the bow. At one end is a hollow gourd, often decorated, which resonates the sound of the bow when it is hit with a small wooden stick. There is also a shaker. The sound produced is a sort of wah sound which is very distinctive but hard to describe! It is used to accompany capoeira, now popular in England, an ancient Afro-Brazilian martial art that intertwines music and dance to create a unique form of self expression.
