What is Fair Trade?
People often ask: Why fair trade?
When Tumi started in 1978 the word fairtrade was not used in the same way as it is today. But there are organisations in the UK such as Tearcraft and later Tradecrafts and Tumi who developed the concept and tried to show others that you can make viable business in a capitalist society whilst being fair and just with the people who provide you with the income, often the artesans who live in developing countries.

One of Peru's most traditional crafts, the Toctos retablo has 7 hand painted figures and is made out of plaster. The word retablo is a Latin American term for a devotional painting or scene. They were originally portable altars taken from Spain to Latin America during and after the conquest. Today, they are still made with religious scenes such as this one, but also with more folkloric themes. This retablo has a flat base so can be used as a stand alone ornament, alternatively it has a hook and can be hung on the christmas tree or on a thread. The back of the retablo is rounded. This makes a lovely value for money Christmas present. |
