Description: Maracas are thought to have originated in Central and South America and although traditionally made out of dried gourds, can also be made from wood and other materials. They can be filled with anything from small pebbles to grains of rice. They are shaken like a rattle in tropical music such as salsa, cumbia and merengue as well as in jazz music and are normally played as a pair.
