About Tumia

Tumia (Previously Tumi) was founded in 1978 by Mo Fini making fairly trade gifts and crafts in Latin America and selling them in the UK.  In the early days Mo worked closely with organisations such as Traidcraft and Oxfam and was a pioneer in developing an organisation that was both a viable business and also aimed to help address poverty.  Mo ran the business for many years, but over time decided to concentrate on his other passions in life – photography and music.

Tumia is now run by us - David and Alice Scott.  We both firmly believe in a world in which justice and sustainable development are at the heart of trade.  We want to play a part in ensuring that everyone, through their work (rather than charity), can maintain a decent and dignified livelihood for themselves and their children.

But we don’t want customers to buy from us simply because of our fair trade credentials.  We want to impress by showcasing the quality of the products produced by our craftsmen and women.  We work hard to ensure that our products are of great quality and suitable for the UK market - the fact that they have also been fairly traded is a vital bonus.
